The Best Alternative

The demand for plastic seems to be never-ending. Almost every other product that we use today is made out of some form of plastic. From the toothbrush we use in the morning to our computers which we use for work, almost every product we use has some part made out of plastic.

The industry supplies an array of products to these businesses ranging from the hospitality industry and healthcare product manufacturers to various food manufacturers. Plastic products are very convenient to use since you can throw them away afterwards, but they take a very long time to decompose. Plastics have been a major contributor to pollution, therefore plastic manufacturers have faced enormous criticism from environmentalists over the years, including some countries straight away banned the use of plastic materials such as polyethene.

The Alternative:

Material Features

Why did FRP (Fibre- reinforced plastic) become so popular in the first place? First of all, due to its eco-friendly, physical and technical characteristics, namely –the high level of strength. It is achieved only by applying a glass fiber to the base of the plastic. It is this fiber that gives it such indestructibility. Therefore, any form of fiberglass of the same dimensions is several times lighter than metal. It is known that in the automotive industry, the crash tests of the leadership palm turned out all the same for a lighter and stronger participant – glass-filled plastic.

The use of this material as a decorative element can be done given that some changes are done in the properties. Various resins are introduced into the FRP, which gives it the ability to be passive to most chemicals and also be refractory. To paint fiberglass not only on the top but on the entire thickness, as in cases of FRP mannequin and other such statues, the resin which impregnates the glass fiber, special colours are introduced into it. Also, few of the industries heavily dependent on fibreglass:

Beverage industry: Grating made of fiberglass is used in many areas like bottling lines and in brew houses.

Fountains and FRP Planters: All sizes of fountains and planters use fiberglass. In large public fountains, grating made of fiberglass is provided to protect the spray headers and lights from getting damaged. This also protects people from drowning in the fountains.

Metals and mining: Fiberglass gratings are used in electronic refining areas which are prone to chemical corrosion. It is not possible to use any other material here.

Automotive industry: Fiberglass finds extensive use in the automobile industry. Almost every car made today has fiberglass components and body kits.
